Seat of Werribee

(Outer Western Melbourne)
Safe. Labor 15.7%

Profile:

The Werribee electorate is based on the rapidly growing outer south-west of Melbourne, covering the suburbs of Werribee and Wyndum Vale as well as the semi-rural surrounds of these suburbs extending to the Geelong LGA boundary (Little River) in the west to, roughly, the Werribee River and Tarneit in the east.

The seat has existed since 1976, where it was won by the Liberal Party at that year's state election. They would, however, only hold the seat for a term, with Labor winning the seat in 1979. It has been held by Labor, by very large margins, ever since; owing largely to the growth and urbanisation of the area and the pricing of the working class out of the gentrifying inner suburbs.
