Seat of Warrandyte

(Outer Eastern Melbourne)
Safe. Liberal 11.6%

Profile:

Warrandyte is an electorate located in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne. It contains the suburbs of Warrandyte, Warranwood as well as parts of Croydon and Ringwood.

The seat was historically a marginal seat. However, since the late 1980's, the seat has firmed up considerably for the Liberal Party; with Phil Honeywood, who held the seat from 1988 to 2006, turning the seat into a safe Liberal seat. His successor from 2006, current MP Ryan Smith, has retained it easily ever since.

The electorate contains a highly educated population, with 32.1% of the population having a university degree (compared to the state average of 24.3%). It also has a higher than average population who work in managerial roles and other professional occupations. The electorate also has a large population with a Chinese ancestry (15.1% of the population, compared to the state average of 4.7%).
