Seat of Thomastown

(Northern Melbourne)
Very Safe. Labor 28.4%

Profile:

Thomastown is an electorate located in the outer-northern suburbs of Melbourne and currently includes the suburbs of Epping, Thomastown and Lalor.

In existence since 1985, the seat has always been held by the Labor Party, usually by very large margins. However, in the 1990 Thomastown by-election following the death of then sitting MP Beth Gleeson, in the heat of an economic crisis, the Democrats came close to winning the seat.

Incumbent MP:

Bronwyn Halfpenny (Labor) - since 2010. Pictured right.

Prediction:

Labor retain

Thomastown is the safest Labor held seat in the state, and its status as a safe seat would only be changed by a high profile independent running.
