(Northern Melbourne)
Very Safe. Labor 24.7%

Profile:

Preston is an electorate located in Melbourne's north and incorporates the suburbs of Preston and Reservoir.

Generally of a working class nature, the seat has always been held by the Labor Party, usually by very large margins. The Greens have, however, steadily increased their vote in recent years - particularly in the southern parts of the electorate.

Incumbent MP:

Robin Scott (Labor) - since 2006. Pictured right.

Political Party: Labor (Incumbent MP)

Robin Scott has been the MP for Preston since the 2006 State Election, currently serving as Minister for Finance and Minister for Multicultural Affairs. While studying at La Trobe University, he was involved in student politics and was one of the alleged conspirators of the SRC ballot rigging incident. He was subsequently hired as an electorate officer for the Labor Party and became President of the party's Preston branch.

Prediction:

Labor retain

Preston is the third safest Labor seat in the state. The Greens are a rising force in this seat; but are nowhere near a threat as yet. Unless a particularly strong independent were to stand, Preston will safely remain a Labor held seat.

2014 Results:

Aside from the three main parties, the Family First Party (FFP) was the only other party represented in this electorate in 2014. An independent also stood in this electorate.
