Profile:

Niddrie is a district in western Melbourne and covers the suburbs of Aberfeldie, Airport West, Avondale Heights, Essendon West, Keilor, Keilor East, Keilor Park and Niddrie as well as parts of the suburbs of Essendon and Taylors Lakes.

The seat was created in the mid 1970's and has always been a safe Labor seat.

Niddrie fits an educated and skilled working class profile. It has a relatively large population of Italian heritage (17%, compared to the state average of 4.5%) and the most prominent religious group are Catholics (45.3% compared to the state average of 23.2%). The composition of employment occupations largely matches the state averages.

Political Party: Labor (Incumbent MP)

Ben Carroll has been the MP for Niddrie since 2012, where he retained the seat in a by-election. He is a trained Lawyer who worked in the office of then-Federal Communications Minister Stephen Conroy as a ministerial advisor and before that, as an Advisor to then-Premier Steve Bracks. He has served as Minister for Industry and Employment since October 2017.
