Seat of Footscray

(Inner Western Melbourne)
Safe. Labor 14.5%

Profile:

Footscray is an electorate located in Melbourne's inner western suburbs and covers the suburbs of Braybrook, Footscray, Footscray West, Maidstone, Maribyrnong, Sunshine West and Tottenham, as well as parts of Brooklyn and Sunshine.

The area is predominantly working class and as such, it is a seat that has always been safe for Labor. In its current incarnation, which has been in effect since the 1920's, it has never been held by any other party than the Labor Party.

Parts of the seat are seeing significant gentrification, which is correlating to a significant increase in the Greens share of the vote in recent years in many parts of the electorate.

Incumbent MP:

Marsha Thomson (Labor) - since 2006. Pictured right. She is not standing for reelection in 2018.
