Seat of Eildon

(Eastern Victoria)
Marginal. Liberal 3.8%

Profile:

Eildon is a new electorate created at the last state redistribution leading up to the 2014 State Election, due to the abolition of the electorates of Seymour and Benalla, taking in area to the south of these seats toward the outer northeastern suburbs of Melbourne. Eildon includes the towns of Eildon, Healesville, Kinglake, Marysville, Mansfield, Warburton, Powelltown, and other towns in the Mansfield, Murrindindi, Yarra Ranges and Nillumbik local government areas.

It is a marginal seat held by the Liberal Party.

Incumbent MP:

Political Party: Liberal (Incumbent MP)

Cindy McLeish has been the MP for Eildon since 2014, formerly representing the electorate of Seymour from 2010 to 2014. She completed a Bachelor of Science and a Diploma of Education, this was followed by a Graduate Diploma in counselling, at the University of Melbourne, after which she was able to register as a Psychologist

Assessment:

Eildon is a marginal seat. The Seymour district, which Eildon largely replaced, was a very marginal seat usually held by whichever party was in government at the time - while also taking parts of the former Benalla district. Labor would likely have to be doing very well if they are to win this seat.
