Seat of Croydon

(Outer Eastern Melbourne)
Fairly Safe. Liberal 9.3%

Profile:

Located in outer-eastern Melbourne, the Croydon district was created prior to the 2014 State Election largely out of the abolished electorate of Klsyth. It includes the suburbs of Croydon, Mooroolbark, Ringwood North, Kilsyth and Bayswater North.

Croydon is rather comfortable for the Liberal Party on current numbers. Its predecessor, Kilsyth, was occasionally gained by the Labor Party when they were performing strongly. Unlike some of the other strong Liberal areas in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, the population of Croydon isn't as highly educated and fits a more working class profile; with most of the workforce being trades workers and administrative workers. Most people living in the electorate are also Australian born (58.8%); and the largest religious group is "no religion" (36.2%)

Incumbent MP:

David Hodgett (Liberal) - since 2014. Pictured right.

Assessment:

Croydon is a reasonably safe Liberal seat.
