Seat of Clarinda

(Eastern Melbourne)
Safe. Labor 15.8%

Profile:

The electorate of Clarinda is a new district in Melbourne's south east created in 2014, replacing the Clayton district which had been in existence since 1985. It includes the suburbs of Clarinda, Clayton, Springvale, Heatherton and Cheltenham.

The Clarinda district, as its predecessor was, is a safe Labor seat and one of Labor's safest seats in Melbourne's eastern suburbs. The electorate is generally well educated but still working class with a relatively even mix of professionals, skilled workers, labourers and administrative workers roughly matching the state average. The district also has a very large Chinese population. Greeks and Indians are also over-represented. English and Australian-born residents are well underrepresented.

Incumbent MP:

Hong Lim (Labor) - since 2014. Pictured right. He is not standing for reelection in 2018.
