Profile:

Bendigo East is an electorate covering the part of the city of Bendigo located to the east of the Yungera railway line and surrounding rural areas to the north, east and south.

The electorate includes the Bendigo suburbs of Bendigo East, Epsom, Huntly, Spring Gully, Strathfieldsaye and White Hills, and the surrounding towns of Axedale, Bridgewater, Flora Hill, Huntly, Kennington, Mandurang, Marong, Quarry Hill, Raywood, and Strathdale. It also includes parts of the localities of Eaglehawk, Elmore, Golden Square and Ravenswood, and the Bendigo campus of La Trobe University.

The seat has existed in its current incarnation since 1985 and has generally been marginal. However, the seat has firmed up for Labor in recent elections.

Political Party: Labor (Incumbent MP)

Jacinta Allan has been the MP for Bendigo East since the 1999 state election and currently serves as Minister for Employment and Minister for Public Transport in the Andrews Government. Before her election, she worked in the offices of then Federal MPs Steve Gibbons and Neil O'Keefe.

Gaelle Broad worked as General Manager of Christian radio station 105.1 Life FM. She was also formerly an ABC presenter and also worked a period in the office Senator Bridgette McKenzie and before that, Peter Costello.

Ian Ellis is a police officer, currently Leading Senior Constable with Victoria Police working as an instructor based in Melbourne and also previously served on the Macedon Shire Council. He has also run a food manufacturing business and cafes in Bendigo, where he has lived for most of his life.

Helen Leach is a former City of Greater Bendigo Councillor, who sat on the council from 2012 to 2016.

Bendigo East is a marginal seat that is by no means out of the Liberal's reach if they are on track to performing particularly strongly statewide.
