Profile:

Bass is an electorate located in the south east of Victoria.

It covers from Pakingham, in Melbourne's outer east and includes the rural localities of Bass, Cape Patterson, Corinella, Cowes, Grantville, Inverloch, Kilcunda, Koo Wee Rup, Lang Lang, Rhyll, San Remo, Ventnor and Wonthaggi.

The electorate has existencedsince the 2002 state election and has always been held by the Liberal Party. Bass' predecessor, Gippsland West, was held by independent Susan Davies (then previously a member of the Labor Party) from 1997 to 2002, when the seat was abolished and replaced. Like Bass today, Gippsland West, prior to 1997, was always held by the conservative parties.

Political Party: Labor

 Jordan Crugnale has worked in the education, mental health, aid and arts sectors in roles ranging from on the ground community led initiatives overseas and in the Kimberley, Latrobe Valley and Waterline towns of Western Port through to high level strategic and advocacy projects. She is a former councillor and mayor of the Bass Coast Shire Council.

Political Party: Liberal (Incumbent MP)

Brian Paynter has been the MP for Bass since the 2014 State Election. He was a small accounting business owner. He is an ambassador for the White Ribbon Foundation and involved with Make a Wish Foundation.  Brian was Chairman of the Casey Cardinia Foundation for ten years, served on the board of Outlook (Vic) Inc for 16 years and is School Council President at Pakenham Secondary College.

Prediction:

Liberal retain

Bass looks like a relatively marginal seat, but that was due to a relatively high profile independent running in 2014. In reality, it is very unlikely that Labor would have a chance of winning this seat. The only way that the Liberals would lose this seat is if a high profile independent challenger were to run.
