OPINION: The current Australian Federal Government has to be the worst government ever...

...And Tony Abbott also has to be the worst Prime Minister in Australian history thus far.

Backpedaling on promises, hypocrisy, backward thinking ideas, lack of investment in Australia's future - this is just what describes the current Australian federal government; consisting of the Liberal/National Coalition, lead by Abbott.

You would think, given all of these 'marvelous' achievements, that the current government has been in power for years. No, they have only been in power for a matter of weeks. And we still have to endure just under three years of this before the next possible chance comes around to vote them out.

Not only are they letting down Australians who voted for them; Abbott is also massively embarrassing Australia on the world stage. Going so far as taking a stab at the previous Labor government, labeling them an embarrassment. It is unwritten courtesy that a sitting Prime Minister doesn't take domestic issues overseas.

Then there is the rollback of action against climate change. According to recent opinion polls, most Australians realise that the Coalition's Direct Action policy is a sham, and would much rather move to an Emissions Trading Scheme then anything else.

'Axing the tax' is, therefore, doing nothing but catering to the noisy right-wing nutjob minority in this country, as most Australians support putting a price on carbon dioxide emissions in some form (either the current fixed price, or a floating price ETS.)

Not to mention the fact that there is lack of an acknowledgement for science (Science Minister, anyone?) in this government. All for the purpose of catering to the nutjobs.

There is also the appalling handling of Indonesian relations; causing them to withdraw their support in 'stopping the boats'. Not that the boats have ever stopped. The media just aren't allowed to report on it.

Common sense dictates that if an issue come up between Australia and another country, it is up to the government of the day to resolve it - not to palm it off and blame the previous government for it.

Then there is today's confirmation of changes to education funding. During the election campaign, Abbott stated that when it came to education funding, that Kevin Rudd and him were on a unity ticket - only to today announce the exact opposite. I can definitely see this becoming the next "there will be no carbon tax under a government I lead"-style saga.

Even Liberal state governments are criticising the move. Well, those who signed up to the 'Better Schools' plan offered by the former Labor government are anyway.

I tell you what, those who work behind the scenes within the Liberal Party ought to tell Abbott to pull his head in, make him realise that he is now a statesman, a Prime Minister, and not an opposition leader.

Successful governments don't succeed by opposing everything for the sake of political point scoring; as Abbott has continued to do ever since winning and forming government.

Incase the Liberals also needed a reality check; Tony Abbott was never that popular whilst in opposition, and the trend is continuing in government. Abbott's honeymoon period has abruptly fizzled. And the people have had a gut-full already of this inept Prime Minister and his government.
